Bat Trang Ceremic village, Dong Ky Carpentry village and But Thap pagoda
At 08:00AM meet with your guide and driver to depart for Bat Trang Ceramic Village by passing Chuong Duong Bridge. 15 km southeast of Hanoi, Bat Trang or “The big yard” in Sino-Vietnamese, without any doubt, has made its name in the pottery works of the country. Upon arriving you can easily catch sight of the ancient, peaceful Bát Tràng village, a residence with quaint architecture and valuable historical relics from communal houses, temples, pagodas, and of course, the unique old kilns that have fired generations of high-quality pottery. Pay visit also to the museum of pottery, opened since 2021 and see a collection of pottery by artisans past and present, art exhibitions, a pottery making and plaster statue-coloring workshop.
You will go next to Dong Ky Carpentry Village in Bac Ninh province. Dong Ky was at one time known as the ‘Firecracker village’. With the firecracker now extinguished, the village has evolved into high quality wood furniture making. Walking into the village, visitors can hear steady sound of cutting, carving and grinding. The most common products are tables, chairs, cupboards, and carved beds. The styles are traditional and timeless with wood carved and inlaid with mother of pearl in the shape of plants, flowers, butterflies or people, as well as mountains and rivers together with boats and bridges.
Leaving Dong Ky we depart for But Thap pagoda one of the most beautiful ancient pagodas in Northern of Vietnam which is perfectly preserved until today. Located on the riverbank of Duong River, the pagoda dates back to 13th century under the reign of King Tran Thanh Tong. The whole pagoda consists of more than 50 ancient precious statues, of which, the most unique treasure is the Buddha statue “Thien Thu Thien – Thousand eyes and hands”. Another special and unique thing of the pagoda is the tall, majestic stone stupa which is like a giant pen, reaching straight up to the sky, called Bao Nghiem Tower.
