3./ How to get a visa to Vietnam
Here are some explanations about Vietnam visa. Please note that whatever the duration and visa type, your passport must be valid for 6 months the moment you enter Vietnam.
3.1/ Visa request at Embassy before your departure
This is a classic formula that travelers often chose before. If you opt for this option, check with the Vietnamese Embassy or Consulate in your country of residence. The required documents are as follows:
- A visa application form (to be downloaded from the Embassy website) duly completed
- 2 passport photos, 1 of which is pasted on the form
- The passport has at least 02 white pages and is still valid for at least 6 months when you enter Vietnam.
- Payment of the visa. Payment will be made in the currency of your country (euro, dollar, etc.). The processing time varies from 1 to 2 weeks depending on the time of year and the visa will be issued for a specific date (the date you indicate in the form).
In other words, it is impossible to enter Vietnam before this date. However, you can arrive after this date.
3.2/ Vietnam E-visa
The E-visa is applicable to citizens of 80 countries around the world. From 15th August 2023, goverment has expanded it to all countries without limitations. This option allows you to obtain a Vietnam visa online, without having to visit the embassy or consulate. If you are eligible then you will need some simple documents :
- A passport with validity period of at least six months
- A photo in .jpg format of your full passport data page
- A passport photo in .jpg format (4x6, white background, without glasses)
- A valid international credit or debit card
- An email address for support purposes
- A temporary address within Vietnam
- Your entry and exit dates and entry and exit points/airports
You can then go to the immigration department website to submit for your e-visa. Follow the steps, it will take about three working days for your visa to be released. Download and print your e-Visa for safety purpose. You are now good to travel to Vietnam.

3.3/ Visa on arrival
The visa on arrival means that you will get a visa upon your arrival at the airport. It is another way of obtaining visa.
To obtain this type of visa, you will need an invitation letter provided by a travel agency such as ours. We take care of the administrative procedures to obtain your visa. This will save you of all procedural hassles. All you have to do is send a scanned copy of your passport to our agency. This alternative is strongly suggested to citizen of the countries which are not entitled to apply for e-visa.
4./ Can the Vietnam visa exemption be extended?
Before Covid, Vietnam visa exemption could be extended. However with the current changes it is no longer possible.
Those who wish to stay in Vietnam after the exemption period must leave Vietnam for a neighboring country (such as Thailand, Cambodia or Laos) and return with a new visa exemption.
Previously, a 30 day period between two visa-free stays is required to be eligible for a new one, however this constraint has been lifted since 2022. For eligible nationalities, it is possible to make several visits to Vietnam of less than 45 days, even close together.
Be careful not to exceed your 45-day stay! Otherwise, you risk a fine of $25 per day late. In addition, those who overstay a visa in Vietnam may be blacklisted and cautioned by the Vietnam Immigration Department.
With the new law effective from August 15, 2023, we wish you a very good trip to Vietnam!
